Nuseed’s national Crop Agronomy Trial (CAT) program carried out by growers – for growers.
At Nuseed, we pride ourselves on being an agricultural seed company that endeavours to go beyond yield alone, and delivering products that add value to your business throughout the entire value chain.
We work tirelessly to continue to deliver hybrids, traits, and production techniques that are tailored to a range of individual climates, soil types and markets. The result is to have a portfolio of products that are best suited to your needs.
As an important step in this process we have tailored a comprehensive on-farm demonstration trial program called ‘Nuseed Crop Agronomy Trials’ program, or CAT Program for short. The Nuseed CAT program focuses on delivering customer solutions at a local level by having the right variety in your area, and it gives you a great opportunity to see how Nuseed technology performs and get a first look at exciting new products.
Our national Crop Agronomy Trial (CAT) program give growers the opportunity to see how new hybrids perform in their growing conditions before they are commercially released. This is because we are focused on delivering the best outcome for you – in your backyard
We understand that demonstration strips are readily accepted in the farming community. Our program aims to provide the most up-to-date varietal information about yield and agronomic characteristics to growers, agronomists and farm advisers.
The aim of this program is to provide you with additional data that is suited to your local conditions. It works by partnering with growers in your local area to trial some of our developing varieties. If you grow canola, sunflowers, grain or forage sorghum, then the Nuseed CAT Program could be in your back paddock.
We recognise the need to deliver meaningful, decision making information that goes beyond conventional research alone to help you make more informed decisions. The CAT program is designed to assess and compare new crops in a way that is most realistic to your situation – exposed to ideal, and also challenging, environments on a larger scale than conventional trials, and on-farm near you.
What is the Nuseed CAT program?
- Demonstrations in large plots consisting of 2, 3, or 4 large ‘farmer scale’ strips
- Farmer size strips could be greater than 1 hectare, sown and harvested with farmer equipment where possible
- Comparison of Nuseed’s new varieties to our current product portfolio
- All trials will be measured and recorded for sowing times, sowing rates, fertiliser, herbicides etc
- Crops may be visually accessed for agronomic characteristics
- Yield & oil will be assessed at harvest
- Profit margins will be assessed wherever possible
- Provides additional data relevant to your local area – information is more localised than that provided by the NVT program
- The results of each on-farm demonstration can be shared with local growers so everyone can benefit
Around the nation there are a substantial number of sites comparing current Nuseed varieties with potential new varieties. Nuseed material will be compared against competitor varieties with similar maturity, giving you confidence in the performance of crops on larger ‘farmer scale’ sites in a wide range of conditions.
Essentially, the CAT Program will give growers and advisors an opportunity to see how varieties perform on large scales, under a variety of climatic conditions, and give you access to important decision making information that is relevant to you and your business.
Want even more data? Nuseed is working to empower growers as best as we can by providing useful tools and resources. Check out our NuStep program, which generates National NVT data in a practical and user-friendly format to provide you the most relevant information.

“More than anything, it gives growers a sneak peek at new varieties of seed before they are commercially released so they can be more confident about how they will perform locally.” – Andrew Loorham, Commercial Manager, Nuseed
